38 Years of Service
Director of Senior Services & Supervised Visitation
Hired in July of 1984, Ms. Nydia Ortiz is the longest-serving employee of the Urban League of Hudson County. Originally hired as an Adolescent Counselor in the Department of Child Protection & Permanency (formerly known as DYFS), in five short years she would be promoted to become the Director of the Department of Health and Human Services, a department that comprised 18 different social service programs with funding provided by Federal, State, County, Municipal and private corporations.
Over the course of the next 33 years, Ms. Ortiz would serve the agency in several other administrative positions as well. In 2004 she became the Supervisor of the Department of Senior Services. A position she still holds to this very day. Along the way, she has received several awards for her long-term dedication and commitment to the agency’s mission. In 1988 she received the agency’s Employee of the Year Award and in 2021, in recognition of her long years of service, she was bestowed with the prestigious longest-serving employee award. It is because of employees like Ms. Ortiz that the Urban League of Hudson County is able to celebrate its golden anniversary of 50 years. Ms. Ortiz is the proud mother of three children, sons Angel, 45 and Ivan, 39, and her 33-year-old daughter Julissa.
